Pinot Gris [pee-no GREE]
Pinot Gris is a pale, light bodied white wine. We planted our Pinot Gris in 2019 and 2020.
We had our first small harvest in fall 2021.
Origin
Pinot Gris is the French name as the grape originated in Burgundy; Pinot Grigio is the Italian name where it has thrived. They are the same grape. It is a mutation of Pinot Noir resulting in pinkish gray grapes. It is the second most popular white wine in the United States behind Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes
Pinot Gris has moderate acidity and is often made into dry (Italy) to off-dry (France) wines. It has a very light flavor of melon, citrus, and peach. We plan to have a small bottling of ours in Spring 2023 and will update the notes at that time.
