Pinotage [peen-o-TAJ]
Origin
Pinotage originated in South Africa where it thrives in their hot summers. It is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut but ends up as a bolder wine than either of its parents.
Tasting Notes
This bold, dry wine has flavors of dark purple fruits especially plums and blackberries with medium body, medium acidity, and medium tannins. Some bottles are known to have cellared well for over 10 years. Our Pinotage grapes have succumbed to groundhog attacks, so we still have not been able to bottle it.
Pairings
Pair Pinotage with hearty meat dishes and barbecues.
